Two Northumberland theatres have their Christmas shows on sale. The Phoenix Theatre in Blyth has a traditional pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, from 5 to 27 December. Queen’s Hall Arts in Hexham has a family musical, A Christmas Carol, from 5 December to 2 January, and has frozen its Christmas ticket prices for this year.

The Phoenix’s panto page lists 26 performances. Returning Phoenix regulars Nathan McGowran, Brooke Havana Bailey and Reece Yarnold are in the cast. Tickets are £23.50, concessions £21.50, with a £2 booking fee and a maximum of ten per booking. The theatre is at 37a Beaconsfield Street, Blyth, NE24 2DS.

A Christmas Carol, Queen’s Hall, Hexham

Queen’s Hall and Triple Treat, the team behind Red Riding Hood, stage a musical A Christmas Carol in the main theatre, for ages six and up and their families. It runs about 90 minutes plus an interval. From the Queen’s Hall show page:

Every child aged 12 months or over needs their own ticket. Queen’s Hall says it has frozen its Christmas show prices this year “to support our community through rising living costs”.

There are 17 performances: Saturday 5, Tuesday 8 (7pm), Saturday 12, Sunday 13, Friday 18, Saturday 19 (2pm and 6pm), Sunday 20, Monday 21, Wednesday 23, Thursday 24, Saturday 26, Sunday 27, Tuesday 29, Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31 December, and Saturday 2 January. Most start at 2.30pm; the 18 and 26 December shows start at 3pm. The performance first set for Tuesday 22 December has moved to Monday 21 December.

Access performances: British Sign Language interpreted on Sunday 20 and Wednesday 30 December at 2.30pm, and a relaxed performance on Tuesday 29 December at 2.30pm.

The Snow Globe, for under-sixes

In the Queen’s Hall studio, The Snow Globe is a 50-minute Christmas story from the same company, running 5 to 31 December. Standard tickets are £10.50 adult and £9.50 child, premium £11.50 and £10.50, and £2 or £3 for a baby under one. All performances are relaxed, with a BSL interpreted show on Sunday 20 December at 10.30am. Robin finger puppets can be added for £5.

For adults: Impro Pantso

The Suggestibles, the Newcastle improv troupe, bring Impro Pantso to Queen’s Hall on Saturday 12 December at 7.30pm: a made-up-on-the-spot musical panto for over-18s, tickets from £30.

What else is on stage

  • The Maltings, Berwick has no pantomime on its what’s on list as at 25 September. Its December listing includes a screening of The Royal Ballet’s The Nutcracker on 13 December.
  • Alnwick Playhouse has not yet listed a Christmas show on its website.
