The Northumberland Post is an independent news and information site for Northumberland. We report what the public record shows and keep the everyday local information people look up accurate and in one place, alongside a guide to what is on across the county.
Where we cover
The whole of Northumberland, which is one council area and the largest of any English unitary bar North Yorkshire. That takes in Berwick-upon-Tweed and Tweedmouth, Wooler and the Cheviots, Alnwick, Amble and Warkworth on the coast, Morpeth, Ponteland, Blyth, Cramlington, Ashington, Bedlington and Newbiggin-by-the-Sea in the south east, Rothbury and Bellingham inland, and Hexham, Corbridge, Prudhoe, Haydon Bridge and Haltwhistle along the Tyne. If something changes daily life here, from a planning decision or a road closure to a new place to eat, we aim to cover it.
How we report
Most of what we publish comes from public records that anyone can see but few people have time to read: planning applications and decisions from Northumberland County Council’s public access register, sold prices from HM Land Registry, open crime data from police.uk, Environment Agency flood warnings for the Coquet, Wansbeck, Till, Tweed, Blyth and Tyne, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, and statutory notices in The Gazette. We turn those records into plain-English stories and link to the original on every one.
Covering a county this large means being straight about what a figure actually measures. Crime data comes from a point in Morpeth and covers Morpeth, not Northumberland; our sold-price figures cover the ten main town postcodes rather than every village. We say so on the page instead of stretching one town’s numbers across the county.
We use software to help monitor those sources and draft routine updates quickly. The facts always come from the named source, never invented, and anything sensitive is checked by a person before it is published.
Tell us what is happening
Local stories often start with someone who noticed first. If you know of a planning row, a road closure, a business opening or closing, or a community event worth listing, email hello@northumberlandpost.co.uk. We read everything and treat tips in confidence.
Images
Where we use a photograph we either took it ourselves, licensed it, used an image supplied to us for that purpose, or used an openly licensed image, and we credit it as required. We do not republish other outlets’ photographs.
Corrections
We would rather be accurate than first. If you spot an error, email hello@northumberlandpost.co.uk and we will put it right and note the correction on the page.
